🍏 How to Make Apple Cider Vinegar From Apples (Zero-Waste Method)
This homemade ACV uses apple peels, cores, and scraps—perfect for reducing kitchen waste.
🍎 Homemade Apple Cider Vinegar from Apple Scraps
Prep time: 5 minutes
Fermentation time: 4–6 weeks
Yield: 1 jar ACV
Ingredients
Apple scraps (peels, cores, bruised apples)
1 tablespoon sugar per
1 cup of water Water
Clean jar
Cloth or coffee filter for covering
Instructions
Fill the jar ¾ full with apple scraps (don’t pack tightly). Make sugar water: dissolve 1 tablespoon sugar in 1 cup water. Pour over apples until they are fully submerged. Weigh down the scraps with a fermentation weight or small clean object to keep them underwater. Cover with cloth and secure with a rubber band. Ferment for 2–3 weeks, stirring every few days to prevent mold. Strain out the apples and pour the liquid back into the jar. Ferment another 2–3 weeks uncovered (cloth on top) until it smells sharp and vinegary. Seal with a lid and store at room temperature. ACV keeps indefinitely.
Noted
If mold appears on the surface, remove immediately. Sweeter apples = faster fermentation. The longer it sits, the stronger the vinegar becomes.
